by October 6th, 2018

Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Daryl Vaz, is encouraging a shift towards protecting the environment, even as economic activities are pursued.

Underscoring the “critical role” trees play in preventing soil erosion, protecting watersheds, food security and general quality of life, Vaz called for citizens to work together to undo the negative impacts to  forest resources.

The minister says economic activities must be balanced, with protecting the environment.

His speech was delivered by Chief Technical Director in the Ministry, Doreen Prendergast,  at the national tree planting ceremony, held yesterday (Oct 5) at the Donald Quarrie High School, in St. Andrew.

The Forestry Department organized event, held under the theme: “Every tree count: 1,2, three…plant yours today,” saw 19 seedlings being planted at the school.
