Vaz moves censure motion against Golding, over controversial dead voters comment

by July 26th, 2023

Government Members of Parliament yesterday followed through on their plan to move a censure motion against Opposition Leader Mark Golding after he failed to apologize and retract his controversial comment about dead voters.

The matter was raised at the start of parliament, with government members chastising Mr. Golding for the comment, saying he has no moral ground on which to talk about constitutional breaches.

Upon the adjournment of parliament, several hours later, government member Daryl Vaz moved the censure motion.

In response, opposition member Mikael Phillips chided government members for being hypocritical, saying there are other members in the house who should also be sanctioned for committing other infractions.

Phillips said Mr. Golding’s comment was being taken out of context, and that the opposition leader would address the issue, again, soon.

The People’s National Party is expected to host a press briefing later today to address, among other things, the constitution.
