Talks that incarcerated dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Ninja Man may get an opportunity to record music behind bars have excited some social media users.

While some still argue that music should not be used as a tool for rehabilitation, retired Superintendent Gladstone Wright, who is now in charge of the newly reinstated Rehabilitation Through Music program says differently in a sit down with Onstage TV host, Winford Williams.

Wright said it is possible dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Ninja Man could benefit from the program. He also outlined that before an inmate gets that opportunity to record they must first be vetted.

The process also includes inmates going through the Department of Corrections where they will be processed. Inmates must show signs of rehabilitation before they can sign a consent form.

Currently, other jailed entertainers include Shawn Storm and Zebra.

The Rehabilitation Through Music saw reggae singer Jah Cure recorded arguably one of his biggest songs when he voiced “Prison Walls” during his incarceration in 2005.
