Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm’s prison sentences reduced

Incarcerated dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm along with their two co-accused had their prison sentences reduced by two and a half years.

7-days after losing the appeal to overturn their murder convictions, the Court of Appeal has announced that with the two and a half year reduction, Vybz Kartel will now be eligible for parole at the age of 70, after serving 32 years, instead of 35 years.

Meanwhile, Shawn Storm must serve 22 years and six months instead of the initial 25 years. The two other co-accused, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John must serve 22 years and six months and 27 years and six months respectively before they are eligible for parole.

Despite the reduced sentencing, the lawyers representing the men stated that they will be taking the matter to the United Kingdom-based Privy Council, which is Jamaica’s final appellate court.

Entertainers Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm, along with the two other men were convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
