Wehby: Petrojam could become burden on public purse

by December 16th, 2018

A government senator is expressing concern that if issues at Petrojam are not resolved soon, the entity could become a burden on the public purse.

Speaking in the Upper House on Friday, Senator Don Wehby said he was concerned about the viability of the state owned oil refinery.

Senator Wehby said he eagerly awaits the report from the committee announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness several weeks ago to review the operations of Petrojam.

In July, the Prime Minister said business man Christopher Zacca, was to chair a team to assist the government and the board of Petrojam to determine the strategic direction of the company.

Senator Wehby called for a timeline as to when this committee report would be made available.

The senator added that a date for the planned forensic audit of Petrojam should be made known.
