West Indies beats Afghanistan by 47 runs to take ODI series

The West Indies have taken an unassailable 2 nil lead in their three game series against Afghanistan following a 47 run win in the second One Day International at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in India.

Batting first the ‘Windies first posted 257 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Nicolas Pooran led the way with the bat for the ‘Windies with 67 off 50 balls which was coloured by seven fours and three sixes.

There was support from Evin Lewis who cracked 54 with six fours and a six and

Shai Hope who made 43 at the top of the order.

Naveem Ul Haq was Afghanistan’s leading bowler with 3 for 60.

In reply the Afghanistan team were dismissed for 200 in the 46th over.

Jamaica’s Sheldon Cottrell was the top ‘Windies wicket taker with 3 for 29.

Roston Chase bagged 3 for 30 while Hayden Walsh Jr also had 3 for 36.

Najibullah Zadaran led the fight for Afghanistan with 56, Rahmat Shah was next best with 33 while Mohammed Nabi made 32.

Captain Keiron Pollard in winning his first series since being named ODI captain, was very satisfied with a job well done.

The ‘Windies secured a seven wicket win in the first game.

The third and final game will be played on Monday.
