West Indies hopes of reaching the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup derailed

Despite a heroic century from Carlos Brathwaite and glitzy half century from Chris Gayle the West Indies hopes of reaching the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup was derailed today ….

This after they suffered a tense and nail-biting 5 runs loss to New Zealand in England.

Brathwaite brought up his first one day ton 101 off 82 balls, as the Caribbean men chasing 192 runs to win fell agonizingly close at 286 all out in 49 overs.

Brathwaite century was coloured by 9 fours and 5 sixes in was a spectacular innings for the 30 year old.

Earlier at the top of the innings opener Chris Gayle survived three drop catches and recovered to smash 87 runs off 84 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer was the next best with 54 runs.

Pacer Trent bowl did most damage for new Zealand racking up 4 for 30 , while Lockie Ferguson finished with 3 for 59.

Earlier the kiwi’s sent to bat …………raced 291 for 8 with captain and man of the match Kane Williamson carrying the team on his shoulders…… as he cracked his second century of the tournament making 148 off 154 balls and helped rescue new Zealand from early trouble.

He also shared in a third wicket stand with Ross Taylor who supported with 69. This against the pace of Sheldon Cottrell 4 for 56 and Carlos Brathwaite who took 2 for 58.

The Caribbean men will now turn their attention to their next game against India next week.
