The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned, that the Omicron coronavirus variant, poses a high risk of infection surges, around the globe.

The WHO says Omicron could lead to severe consequences in some regions.

Addressing the World Health Assembly today, Director General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus renewed a call for a global push, to get vaccines to poorer nations.

He stressed that the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over.

Dr. Tedros said while the covid-19 virus must be suppressed, lockdowns are not the first safety measure.
