Windalco workers threaten legal action

by July 2nd, 2018

The union which represents workers at Windalco says it’s considering legal action to bar the company from issuing contracts to its employees.

At the same time, the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) states that the workers may be forced to take industrial action.

Ucase, which represents more than 700 of the workers, believes Windalco is trying to undermine its work by forcing workers to sign contracts, some of which expire on Saturday July 7.

Ucase President, Vincent Morrison claims the company is using unfair tactics to get workers to sign the contracts.

Morrison points out that the new contracts deny workers among other things, redundancy payments, and overtime wages and pension benefits.

He explains that the dispute between the Windalco employees and the company’s management is being arbitrated by the industrial disputes tribunal.

He says if Windalco does not await the ruling of the tribunal, the workers will be forced to seek an injunction against the company.

The Ucase President says the contracts being offered by Windalco’s management are outdated and encouraged workers not to sign them.
