Windies begin World T20 defense against New Zealand

Reigning champions West Indies have been drawn alongside tournament host Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan in the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup which will be held in October and November of 2020.

The Windies, who won the 2016 title in India with Carlos Brathwaite famously smashing four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes in the last over of the final to seal victory, will open against New Zealand on October 25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

They will next face Australia on October 28 at the Perth Stadium, and Pakistan at Adelaide Oval on November 3 before wrapping up the group stage of the competition against a yet to be decided qualifier in Melbourne on November 7.

The other side of the draw sees India, England, South Africa and Afghanistan, plus two qualifiers, grouped together.

In all, 16 teams will contest 45 matches at seven venues.

The semi-finals will be contested in Adelaide and Sydney while the final will be staged at the MCG on November 15.
