Windies A carve out narrow win over England Lions

The West Indies A team took a 1-0 lead in the unofficial three-match One Day Series against England Lions after carving out a 6-runs win in the first day/night contest which was played at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Tuesday.

Batting first West Indies A were dismissed for 272 with Jermaine Blackwood just missing out on a century after he was dismissed while on 99.

He got support from Rahkeem Cornwall (44) and Andre McCarthy (33) who were the next best contributors with the bat against the trio of Paul Coughlin (2-55), Richard Gleeson (2-30) and Matt Parkinson (2-37).

England Lions in reply stumbled to 165 for 9 in the 35th over before a century by Sam Nain guided them to within 6 runs of victory.

Nain, who was the last wicket to fall, was however caught by Raymon Reifer off the bowling of Roston Chase for 144 as the visitors were dismissed for 267 in 49.3 overs.

Keemo Paul led the Windies A with 5 for 49 while Cornwall took 2 for 38.

Final scores West Indies A 272, England Lions 267.

The second game takes place on Friday with the 3rd and final game on Sunday also at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
