A four wicket burst from Shannon Gabriel spearheaded a West Indies Fightback on today’s opening day of the first test against Bangladesh in Chittagong, but it was Mominul Haques’s 8th test century and a stubborn unbroken 9th wicket partnership that gave the home team the advantage at the close of play.
Haque slammed 10 fours and a six on his way to 120 to guide Bangladesh to 315 for 8 on a topsy -turvy opening day……………his knock came off 167 balls
Haque shared in a century 2nd wicket partnership of 104 with Imrul Kayes who contributed 44, while captain Shakib al Hasan got 34.
Bangladesh who had won the toss and elected to bat collapsed from 222 for 3 to 235 for 7 in the space of 4.2 over, as Shannon Gabriel in a blazing third wicket spell, picked up all four wickets to end the day with 4 for 69
However the home team rallied with an unbroken ninth-wicket stand 56 between Taijul Islam and debutant Nayeem Hasan resisting the west indies bowling in the last-hour-and-a-half of the days play.
Jomel Warrican supported Gabriel with 2 for 62, while there was a wicket each for Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo.
Score at the end of day 1 Bangladesh 315 for 8.
