Work to begin on Bowden Hill bridge soon

by November 18th, 2019

Construction work will soon commence on the Bowden Hill bridge in St. Andrew.

The bridge, will replace the structure that collapsed in February, affecting access to communities such as airy castle, falling edge, and waterfalls.

Speaking with reporters following a tour of the bridge yesterday, Mayor of Kingston, Delroy Williams said the new bridge was to be installed weeks ago, however, it was delayed as the necessary equipment was not available.

He says now that equipment has been sourced and is to be cleared this week, works are scheduled to begin shortly.

Mr. Williams says work on the bridge could be completed within the next three weeks.

Noting that water supply to residents in surrounding communities could be disrupted as a National Water Commission pipeline, which runs along the bridge, will have to be removed, Mr. Williams says the situation is unavoidable.

He however assured that the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, the National Works Agency, and the national Water Commission will be working to have the issue resolved quickly.

The mayor says during this one week disruption period, water will be supplied to residents.
