WRA employees stage sick-out

by July 12th, 2021

Several employees of the Water Resources Authority (WRA), have called in sick today, in protest of issues stemming from a reclassification exercise.

President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association, O’neil Grant, says coming out of the reclassification exercise, several anomalies were pointed out to the union.

He states that the union relayed the concerns to the ministry of finance and asked for assistance with the appeals process that normally accompanies such exercises.

He says no response was received from the ministry, leading to action by the workers.

Mr. Grant says while the full impact of the action is not yet known, the employees who did not report to duty include field and technical staff.

He notes that neither the union nor its representatives have been contacted by the ministry or the WRA.
